The former Dynamos hitman joined the army side at the beginning of the second half of the season and he was given a target of finishing in the Top 8, a feat he failed to achieve as Buffaloes finished 10th, escaping relegation on the final day of the season.

His predecessor Luke Masomere had left the army side in the top eight, but the team had to defeat Hwange 2-1 at Sakubva Stadium on Sunday to remain in the top-flight league.

Buffaloes secretary Arnold Gatsi confirmed to NewsDay Sport the club would meet in the coming few days

“Chunga’s contract is set to expire on December 31 and we are going to meet over the issue next week but it’s up to the executive committee to decide over the matter,” he said.

But sources who spoke to this publication yesterday said that a section in the executive believes Chunga would do well if given enough time to assemble his own team.

“Yes, he was expected to end the season in the top eight, but the club is struggling financially and I’m afraid we don’t have many choices at the moment other than to retain Chunga. The coach should start his own season and then we will judge him from there,” he said.

But it’s not clear if Chunga would want to extend his stay with the club given his itinerant tendencies.
