Vapostori saga sucks in Mugabe

EMBATTLED members of the Johanne Masowe eChishanu have challenged the authority of Apostolic Christian Council of Zimbabwe (ACCZ) leader Bishop Johannes Ndanga and claims that the church leader is a representative of President Robert Mugabe.

FELUNA NLEYA

The Vapostori threatened to approach the Constitutional Court if Ndanga does not lift the ban he purportedly imposed on their sect within the next five days.

At least seven anti-riot police officers, journalists and members of the ACCZ were seriously injured on May 30 this year when rowdy members of the sect attacked them.

The attack followed Ndanga’s announcement that the church, led by Madzibaba Ishmael Mufani, had been banned from operating in the country for alleged human rights abuses, including allowing fathers to test their daughters’ virginity.

But in a letter directed to Ndanga by the sect members’ lawyers Mbidzo, Muchadehama and Makoni Legal Practitioners, the Vapostori contend that the ban imposed by Ndanga infringed on their freedoms of conscience and religion which are guaranteed by
the country’s Constitution.

“The sect also wants to know if Ndanga’s claim that he was representing the Presidium and that he was the representative of high offices in government were true,” the letter reads.

They also argued that Ndanga had no legal authority to ban their sect and the allegations raised against them were malicious.

They further contended that Ndanga had no basis to impose such a ban on their group because it was not affiliated to ACCZ.

“We are further instructed that you, within the same period of five days from the date of this letter, reverse the ban, failing which our clients will be left with no choice, but to approach the Constitutional Court for the restoration of their freedoms of conscience and religion,” the letter reads.

The Vapostori also want to know in what capacity Ndanga visited their Budiriro shrine where violence later broke out leading to the arrest of 35 sect members.

“We have been requested to demand as we hereby do that within five days of receiving this letter you advise us the authority under which you were acting when you visited the shrine, the legal basis for your order to ban our clients’ section,” the letter further reads.

The lawyers accused Ndanga of making embarrassing and unsubstantiated allegations against their clients including claims that the Vapostori were involved in polygamous marriages in which under-age girls were married off to elderly men.

“Our clients advise us that they will not dignify your malicious allegations by responding to them in this letter, as such allegations are born out of a series of imaginations and hallucinations which you want the whole nation to believe.”

Ndanga confirmed receiving the letter and said his lawyers would respond in due course.

“We received the letter, but we have handed it over to our lawyers who are analysing it so that they can respond,” Ndanga said.

“The issues that are being raised are not why we had gone to the church. The lawyers are being misled. All that is in the letter is nothing of what we went to do there, but we will leave it to the lawyers to respond.”

At least 27 members of Johane Masowe eChishanu accused of assaulting police officers, journalists and ACCZ officials are currently facing violence charges and will be back in court on July 16 for routine remand hearing.

  4. These little mushrooming gatherings if left uncontrolled end up being cult organizations where people are not allowed to think for themselves.Prophet this prophet that people are becoming crazy Ndanga is 100% correct. They do their congregations in the bush without water messing everywhere how can people be so uncivilsed like that?

    1. This the authority that ZANU PF has given to all Vapostori in exchange for the vote. So be it.

    2. Prosper Chinamhora

you are crazy up there, 100% yechiyi, violation of the law of the country i.e. the constitution

    3. @Mandi.If you do not have anything to say, for God’s sake, don’t say it here. Civilised people first consider and verify their facts before they open their mouths. To start with, Ndanga had no locus standi in the matter. There are authorities with the mandate to take care of all this, and not Ndanga. And to those with the powers to do so, the correct procedure to take was to first set up a board of enquiry to establish the truthfulness of the allegations before a decision to ban the sowe was made. Wise up, Mandi!

      Mandi,

Unfortunately the law is tough my friend. Our constitution is clear on the freedom of association and worship. There is nothing wrong in affiliating yourself to any group whether its a church or not. It’s your constitutional right. And whosoever want to breach this right from other citizens(ZIm), He/She should be accompanied by a court order clearly stating the reasons why the rights are being stripped. if Ndanga had a case against the Vapostory, he should not have confronted the group the way he did. Imagine all associations which claim to represent different sections of the community follow the Ndanga way, just imagine the chaos that will prevail. Ari pano anoti nanga ndamubanner , uyuwo achiti nhingi achafanira kurarama. Nyika haishande ichidaro mumwe wangu

    5. Ndanga and others now know what happens when you take the law into your own hands. No warrant a big beating!!! Those policemen breaking windscreens and other acts of violence beware. It even happened to Gaddafi!!!!

  5. Witness Chirwa

@ Mandi but I think the government and not Ndanga should regulate the operations of churches. The constitution is the supreme law of the land and guarantees freedom of worship. Of course if the allegations levelled against the church are proved to be true beyond reasonable doubt then again the law should take its course.

  6. Ndanga must be arrested and charged for misrepresentation, undermining the authority of the office of the president and violent conduct

This issue is tricky indeed what most of you are forgetting is our government officials are so much into believing the prophets and the n’anga’s. This sect is one powerful gathering with links deep in the government. Do you really think the leader would manage to hide from the law enforcement agents here in Zimbabwe, were we have arguably the best police in the region. If he can’t be found then it means one thing and only that one thing, that he is being kept safe in one of the big Chefs house were no search is conducted. For your own information the President’s victory was predicted by this prophet well before the elections, and he is believed to be speaking through the spirit that guaranteed the Preident of ruling Zimbabwe during the war. The other issue was he instructed the government not to be violent during elections and that the government should arrest all the corrupt elements failure would result in them being beaten up by the people and losing the 2018 elections and he has also predicted a war. He assured the president that he is still young enough to rule this nation only that he should retire after the election and join the sect in their journey to paradise. Were his problems might have emarnated from, it could be the word that Zimbabwe should not be ruled by a woman. This could be a clean up program from one of the factional sides within the ruling party. He strongly advised that never should this country be placed under woman rule and this why there is the big fght to remove Mother from the presidium come December. Our leaders do listen to these prophets eg. diesel in Chinhoyi.

Lest we forget these guys have been gathering at the Budiriro shrine for years now and with ou intelligence system they knew exactly what was going on so the issue is not a surprise to the government, they let them have it his way.
