SOUTH African songstress Zahara (born Bulelwa Mkutukana), who is going to be the main act at this year’s second edition of the Green Concert slated for May 9 at 7 Arts Theatre in Avondale, Harare, is expected bring her live band, the event organisers have said.
One of the organisers Dereck Mpofu said they had settled for an agreement with the Loliwe singer to bring her band members along with her for the performance.
“Zahara and her band are expected to touch down at Harare International Airport on May 7 ahead of her two shows in the capital and a bush concert at Chingwizi Camp in Masvingo,” Mpofu said.
He said after the concert in Harare, they would have a bush concert at Chingwizi because as far as environmental issues were concerned, after the the Tokwe-Mukorsi flooding they felt it was prudent that they channelled efforts towards the victims.
Mpofu said through the concerts they would render assistance not only in terms of goods and funds secured, but also their talents to entertain the people.
Mpofu, who is the Goodwill Ambassador for the Water Conservation and Zero Littering Campaign, said before her performance, Zahara would lead a clean-up campaign on May 8 at Avondale shops and tree planting together with Harare mayor Bernard Manyenyeni.
Minister of Environment, Water and Climate Saviour Kasukuwere is expected to be the guest of honour.
Zahara, who was in the country in December last year to launch her album Phendula, will be joined on the stage by an array of local artistes including Willis Wataffi among others.
The concert that serves as an environmental awareness campaign through music, dance and song will be held under the theme Remembering Tokwe-Mukorsi — One Environmental Family.
Mpofu said the $20 tickets for the concert were selling fast thus he urged fans to purchase them in advance at Jan Jam Fashions and New World Property Managers, Joina City, and Environmental Management Agency offices countrywide.
The Green Concert will be part of the Green Ambassador’s mission to promote positive attitudes and initiatives with regard to environmental issues.
