VICE-PRESIDENT Joice Mujuru is today expected to officially launch a “Vote For a Woman Campaign” project which aims to rally the electorate to back female politicians in the forthcoming harmonised elections.

Report by Wonai Masvingise

The campaign, which is being spearheaded by Women in Politics Support Unit (WIPSU), is an inter-political project meant to drum up support for female candidates regardless of political affiliation.

WIPSU executive director Fanny Chirisa said the launch was meant to help the country achieve gender equality in decision-making positions in accordance with the Sadc Protocol on Gender and Development.

“WIPSU would like to take this opportunity to launch the ‘Vote For A Woman Campaign,’ to accelerate the number of women taking up positions in Parliament and local government,” said Chirisa.

“The campaign is also meant to raise awareness among the general populace to vote for a woman in the upcoming elections.”
