Tinashe Chizanga (19) and Samuel Sibanda (75) both of Little England Farm, Darwendale, will serve 10 years in jail each after four years of their sentence were suspended on condition of good behaviour.

The court heard that on July 7 last year, accused persons together with their accomplice Kelvin Sibanda — still at large — went to Old Lands Farm which is managed by Max Madhochi (33) where they drove a heifer to a bushy spot in the grazing area and slaughtered it before loading the carcass into a scotch-cart. They took the meat to Little England Farm where they sold it to villagers.

Complainant discovered the head of the stolen beast in the paddock and reported the matter to police. Police later got information that the three accused were selling meat at Samuel Sibanda’s homestead and went to investigate, leading to the arrest of the two. Kelvin fled. The stolen heifer was valued at $800.

Magistrate Ngoni Nduna presided while Authur Bosha prosecuted.
