Addressing guests during commemorations of the United Nations International Human Rights Day in Harare, Khupe said ZBC should give equal coverage to all political parties and stop being used as a Zanu PF propaganda mouthpiece.

“We want access to information because Zimbabweans are sick and tired of propaganda on ZBC, which is now Zanu PF Broadcasting Corporation, and even Satan does not approve of it,” Khupe said.

“This year’s  ZimRights theme is ‘Towards a Non-Violent Zimbabwe’ and as elections are approaching us, we want people to register freely, vote for a political party of their choice, and campaign freely and the loser congratulate the winner,” she said.

The DPM also called for full enjoyment of other human rights like health, education, shelter, rights for people with physical disabilities, children’s rights, rights to electricity, water as well as food.

“People have a right to food, but we are worried that there are situations whereby people are asked to produce political party cards to access food.  Anti- retroviral therapy and maternal health should be a right and nobody should die in this country,” she said.

The function also honoured 11 human rights defenders, among them  Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights director Irene Petras and Blessing Nyamaropa.
