KAROI An international truck driver Samuel Nyamukuwa (38) was last Wednesday allegedly robbed of R660 330 and two mobile phones by two passengers he had offered a lift.

Police confirmed the incident happened at the 197km peg along the Harare/Chirundu highway at around midnight.

The driver reportedly picked up three hitchhikers at Westgate in Harare en route to Chinhoyi. One of the passengers was dropped off in Chinhoyi while two others said they were going to Karoi.

On approaching the 197km peg, one of the accused ordered the driver to slow down and pull off the road, said Mashonaland West police spokesperson Inspector Clemence Mabgweazara.

The suspect allegedly drew a 9mm pistol and fired one shot into the trucks roof and ordered the driver to sit on the bed behind the drivers cab while the two ransacked the truck before fleeing into the darkness.

The driver later proceeded to Karoi where he reported the robbery.

A 9mm spent cartridge was recovered from the vehicle.
