KADOMA — Four men have been arrested and brought to court for allegedly raping a 12-year-old girl on separate occasions.

The four, Blessed Haurovi (27), Gift Jampton (34), Mind Chirwa (30), all from Venice Mine, and Dereck Baison (35) of Manyara compound in Battlefields, appeared in court yesterday, facing rape charges.

The State’s case led by Reginald Chavora is that sometime in October 2011, Haurovi approached the girl at a market shed before dragging her into a bush and raping her once.

The court also heard that during the same month on a date unknown to the prosecution, Jampton unlawfully broke into the complainant’s house and raped her once.

It was alleged that during the same month, Chirwa waylaid the girl who was on her way to the market and raped her again.

Baison, the court further heard, confronted the girl at the market shed before pulling her into a bush where he raped her once. The offences came to light after the girl was diagnosed with a sexually transmitted infection.

The girl then revealed her ordeal, leading to the arrest of the accused persons.

According to the State, the four went to the victim’s guardians to try and negotiate compensation and conceal the rape.

Magistrate Takawira Mugabe remanded the four to February 13 on $50 bail each.
