A 22-year-old Chipinge man reportedly murdered his eight-year-old brother by stabbing him with a kitchen knife several times last week in a spine-chilling tragedy that has left villagers of Maparadza village shell-shocked.

The brother has since allegedly fled the village. Police have confirmed the murder which took place in Maparadza village in Chief Garahwa’s area saying it was allegedly triggered by a heated argument between the brothers.

Manicaland police spokesperson Inspector Leonard Chabata said on October 24 at around 7am, Liberty Maruku (22) had a misunderstanding with his eight-year-old brother.

“The elder brother felt insulted by the younger brother following the misunderstanding.

“Thus he entered the kitchen and armed himself with a knife. Without saying a word he stabbed him once in the throat, several times in the stomach and hands. The eight-year-old boy died instantly,” he said.

Inspector Chabata said their mother was away at the fields when the incident happened.

Neighbours who witnessed the incident rushed to the fields to inform her of the fatal incident.

They said when she arrived home she saw her eight-year-old son lying in a pool of blood and by then the elder brother had fled their homestead. His whereabouts are unknown.

Police urged people to solve their differences amicably to avoid unnecessary loss of life.
