A senior police officer based in Bulawayo arrested on Friday night for allegedly supplying dangerous drugs to five addicts, possession of pornographic material and failure to properly secure his service firearm, appeared in court yesterday to face the charges.

Assistant Commissioner Dereck Matsika (31) was not asked to plead to five counts of contravening the Dangerous Drugs Act, Entertainment and Censorship Act and Firearms Act, when he briefly appeared before Bulawayo magistrate, Victor Mpofu.

He was remanded to August 16 on $100 bail. Charges against him are between November and July this year.

Matsika supplied five drug addicts with Pethidine, a dangerous drug only consumed under supervision.

On his arrest, he was also found in possession of 16 pornographic discs and it was also discovered he had not secured his firearm, which was placed in his unlocked wardrobe in contravention of the provisions of the Firearms Act.

Trust Muduma prosecuted.
