Zimbabwe’s number one and Under-14 female tennis player, Nicole Dzenga, will miss the African Junior Championships Zone VI qualifiers which serve off in Windhoek, Namibia, tomorrow as she is currently in France where she has been enrolled at the prestigious ISP Tennis Academy in Nice.
Created in 1998, the ISP Tennis Academy provides young players with the highest quality training programmes, preparing them for the Association of Tennis Professionals and the Women Tennis Association (WTA) professional Tours.
Dzenga, who is daughter of former Zimbabwe Football Association’s board member Regis, was based in South Africa prior to her departure for France on January 2.
In an interview with NewsDay Sport, Regis confirmed Nicole’s enrolment at the prestigious academy: “Yes, Nicole is in France at the ISP Academy in Nice. She joined the programme on the second of January which is why she could not participate in the zonal qualifiers in Namibia.
“However, this does not mean she will no longer be representing the country as she has made herself available for the African Junior Championship finals in Cairo, if selected by Tennis Zimbabwe,” said Regis.
Nicole, who represented Zimbabwe at last year’s Africa Junior Tennis Championships held in Botswana, is one of the country’s most promising tennis players.
Early this year, Dzenga soared to the top of the Confederation of African Tennis rankings before dropping two places to third.
She was subsequently named in the 2011 Wilson Elite Team which was co-sponsored by Nike and tennis sports equipment manufacturer Wilson.
