Dynamos striker Cuthbert Malajila was last night close to sealing a deal to join South Africa Absa Premiership side Maritzburg United.

Having agreed personal terms with the club, Malajila is now waiting for Dynamos to accept Maritzburgs offer and there seems to be no problem in the Zimbabwe League and Cup winners in releasing the player.

Malajilas manager Gibson Mahachi said: Communication is going on between the two clubs and I believe the offer that has been made to Dynamos is reasonable. Dynamos acknowledge the contribution the player made last season and would be willing to release him.

Malajila arrived from war-torn Libya. He had spent six months at Club Africain in Tunisia and rejoined Dynamos who had just signed on Calisto Pasuwa to replace the dismissed Lloyd Mutasa.

The former Chapungu and Highlanders hitman helped Dynamos overhaul FC Platinums lead at the top of the standings and eventually landed the title when they won 1-0 at Mandava Stadium in November.

He then assisted the Harare giants to claim the Mbada Diamonds Trophy on November 27 when they beat Motor Action 1-0 in the final at the National Sports Stadium. His prospective new club has re-appointed German mentor Ernst Middendorp to replace Ian Palmer who was sacked last week for breach of contract.

Farouk Kadodia, the club chairman told SuperSport.com: The key factor in finding a coach was that we found someone who has coached in the league before.

The key was that he (Middendorp) had the advantage of knowing the club structures, the players, and was the right person to take us forward and fight for a top-eight finish in the league.

Ronnie Kanalelo, the goalkeeper coach, was caretaker coach for the past week when Malajila was having trials.
