In-form long distance running ace Tabitha Tsatsa won her second major marathon title inside three weeks after romping to victory in the Mascom Phikwe Marathon in Botswana on Saturday.
Tsatsa, who turns 40 in September, won the 42,2km race in a time of 2hrs 56,5mins followed by her training partner and compatriot Samukeliso Moyo who finished second in 3hrs 06,26mins.
For winning the women’s title Tsatsa, who represented Zimbabwe at the Beijing Olympic Games finishing 49th, pocketed P25 000.
Tsatsa’s performance in Botswana came hard on the heels of another impressive display at last month’s Forever Resorts Loskop Marathon in South Africa, on Saturday where she broke the course’s eight-year-old record to pocket the R100 000 incentive.
Botswana’s Onkemetse Selotate finished in a time of 3hrs 10,30mins.
Speaking to The Monitor after the race, Tsatsa said it was her first time to take part in the Phikwe Marathon. She explained that she didn’t get much competition from the other runners including Moyo and urged Batswana runners to train harder if they want do better in international races.
