Greg Bentley, who jointly held the overnight lead heading into yesterday’s second round, continued his rich vein of form after firing an impressive five-under-par 67 to take the sole lead in the Marange Resources Pro-Am at Mutare Golf Club yesterday.
The 25-year-old Bentley, who only turned professional last September will head into today’s final round on seven-under-par 137 and leading second-placed Mohammad Mandhu by four clear shots.
Bentley, who will be eyeing his maiden professional title on the Golden Pilsener Zambezi Tour, told NewsDay Sport that he was not focusing too much on the leaderboard.
“I’m not really focusing on the leaderboard or thinking about the scores. I just want to maintain my focus and not put any unnecessary pressure on myself.
“I was striking the ball really well which was nice because I have been working very hard on my swing, chipping and putting,” said Bentley, who credited his good run to his South African coach Warrick Drauign.
Mandhu carded a second round two-under-par 70 to finish on three-under-par 141.
The trio of South Africa-based Micky Hough, Brian Gondo and Ignatius Mketekete were on level par 144.
Hough and Gondo shot another level par 72 for the second consecutive day while Mketekete shot only the second sub-70 score so far in the tournament after carding a three-under-par 69.
