Mutasa seeks consistency as MWOS aim to revive last season’s spark

MWOS coach Lloyd Mutasa believes consistency will be the key if his side is to transform from a mid-table outfit into genuine contenders once again as they prepare for a difficult Castle Lager Premier Soccer League assignment against TelOne at Ascot Stadium tomorrow.

After surprising many by finishing second last season, MWOS entered the current campaign carrying heightened expectations.

However, an inconsistent run of results has seen them settle among the league’s middle pack, raising questions about whether they can reproduce the form that made them one of the country's most exciting teams.

Mutasa remains confident his side is heading in the right direction despite recent setbacks.

“We know the challenge that awaits us and we have prepared accordingly,” he said.

“Every match presents an opportunity to improve and showcase our identity as a team.”

The MWOS mentor said his charges had responded positively in training following their recent home draw and were eager to return to winning ways.

“The players have worked hard throughout the week and we are looking forward to the match against TelOne.

“Our objective is to remain focused, disciplined and continue building momentum.

“We are coming from a draw at home and we would want to improve on that, meaning we have to go there and put in a good shift.”

The encounter presents another important test of MWOS’s ambitions this season.

While the club has shown glimpses of the quality that propelled it into the top two last year, the inability to string together a consistent run of victories has prevented them from climbing into the title conversation.

For Mutasa, the challenge is not necessarily rebuilding confidence, but rediscovering the consistency that characterised his team’s performances during their breakthrough campaign.

Mutasa was quick to acknowledge the threat posed by their hosts.

“TelOne are a good team, on any day they can play good football.

“So we are approaching this game with all the seriousness it deserves and we hope to bring a good result.

“I have faith in my boys and what they can do.”

With the league entering a crucial phase, MWOS know that positive results must start translating into points if they are to reignite hopes of challenging near the summit of the table.

A victory tomorrow would not only improve their standing, but could also restore belief among supporters who have been eager to see a return of the attractive and effective football that defined last season’s remarkable campaign.

For now, Mutasa’s message is simple: remain patient, remain disciplined and keep building.

Whether that approach can return MWOS to the heights they reached last year may become clearer at Ascot this weekend.
