FC Platinum face tricky Arenel

Sport
The Norman Mapeza-coached side have registered wins in all their away matches so far defeating fellow miners Ngezi Platinum Stars and Herentals.

FORMER champions FC Platinum have a tough task as they face cocky new boys Arenel Movers in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League encounter at Luveve Stadium tomorrow.

The Norman Mapeza-coached side have registered wins in all their away matches so far defeating fellow miners Ngezi Platinum Stars and Herentals.

Now they face the sweets makers who have also not lost a tie at Luveve, holding reigning champions Ngezi, Chicken Inn and Herentals.

Arenel have only lost once in five games, falling to Caps United in Harare and last week having accounted for Bikita Minerals to collect their first set of three points at Luveve.

Mapeza is aware of the threat that the Farai Tawachera-mentored outfit poses.

“Our preparations have been going well despite what happened last Saturday … We never thought the game could end up like that. But at the end of the day, there is nothing we can do. It was something which was beyond our control. Now our main focus is on our game against Arenel on Sunday [tomorrow]. We are playing a quality side. If you look at their last match they managed to win against Bikita Minerals,” Mapeza said.

He added:  “We are facing a team which is very high in confidence and has been doing well of late especially at home. We know the challenge we will face on Sunday but for us, the most important thing is to go out there with the same attitude, the same desire I have seen in the past five weeks then we see what happens come Sunday [tomorrow].”

FC Platinum’s match against Caps United was abandoned last Saturday at Mandava after the Green Machine’s fans invaded the pitch protesting a disallowed goal.

Caps United and coach Lloyd Chitembwe have been summoned to appear before a PSL disciplinary committee regarding that match.
