Chicken Inn, Manica Diamonds aim high

FORMER Premier Soccer League champions Chicken Inn and ambitious Manica Diamonds have set out to raid Harare football giants Caps United’s camp for players ahead of the start of the new campaign.

Chicken Inn have made inquiries on the availability of striker Emmanuel Mandiranga, while the Gem Boys are bidding for veteran midfielder Devon Chafa.

Although Chafa was overlooked for the Soccer Star of the Year finalists, he was one of the outstanding players for the Green Machine besides William Manondo and there is a general feeling among some quarters that he deserved a place on the soccer stars’ calendar.

Manondo has attracted interest from foreign clubs in Zambia and South Africa after he scored 17 goals last term, half of the goals scored by the entire Caps United team. It is not surprising Chicken Inn and Manica are determined to snap up the players.

Chicken Inn last won the championship in 2015 under the guidance of former Warriors coach Joey Antipas.

And it appears Antipas is looking to repeat the same feat achieved some eight years ago.

Last term, he was beaten to the championship by FC Platinum and eventually settled for second place.

That they managed to beat Dynamos to second place have given them grounds for optimism that they can get back to the top table of Zimbabwean football again.

Manica Diamond had a strong finish last season and should be fancying their chances as well.
