The Zimbabwe international defender signed a one-year deal with Danish top-flight league side Hobro IK.

He had been scheduled to leave for pre-season at the end of June, but challenges in securing a work permit delayed his big move to the elite European league.

“I am still around and expecting to leave for Denmark by weekend. I am still waiting for my work permit and should be leaving at the weekend. It’s sad that I will be leaving Caps United. They gave me the exposure and the platform to play at a higher level. I had been used to playing for Caps United and it’s always difficult to be leaving a team you have become used to. But at the same time, the dream of every player is to play in Europe,” Pfumbidzai said.

The 21-year-old was plucked from the obscurity of lower divisions in Chiredzi by Gishon Ntini, who recommended him to Caps United in 2013.

He has been a key player at Caps United and his departure is likely to create a vacuum that will be difficult to fill.

The Caps United left-back — a member of the Young Warriors — has graduated into the senior team and was part of the squad that pulled off a 2-1 victory over Malawi in an African Cup of Nations first leg qualifier at Kamuzu Stadium last month.

Pfumbidzai was also part of the squad that drew 2-2 against Swaziland to advance to the third and final qualifying round of the Under-23 African Championships in which they will now meet neighbours South Africa.

He scored an equaliser from the penalty spot which ensured the Young Warriors advanced to the third round on the away goals rule.

The Caps United defender was also part of the squad that drew 1-1 against Cameroon in Yaounde to seal a ticket to the All-Africa Games to be staged in Congo Brazzaville in September.

Pfumbidzai joins fellow countryman Quincy Antipas, who is already on the books of Hobro having also played for SønderjyskE and Brondby.

Another Zimbabwean, former Harare City forward Silas Songani, also plays his club football in Denmark turning out for SønderjyskE. Songani has been there since January 2014. The Danish club finished the season on seventh position on the league table with 43 points with Midtjylland winning the league with 68 points.
