ZimRights regional director Florence Ndlovu who was due to stand trial last Friday for allegedly communicating falsehoods prejudicial to the State, might have to wait a little longer after the latter indicated it was not yet ready for the matter to be heard.
Lupane magistrate Florence Ndlovu deferred the trial to August 25 after the public prosecutor told the court he was still awaiting directive from Attorney-General Johannes Tomana’s Office.
Ndlovu is alleged to have made the offensive remarks while addressing a public meeting in Tsholotsho on May 23. She allegedly accused the law enforcement agents of torturing and assaulting people they purport to safeguard.
Soon after the address, Ndlovu and Walter Dube, a ZimRights lawyer, were immediately whisked away by police.
Dube was released without charge, while Ndlovu was set free two days later on $50 bail. Ndlovu, through her lawyer Lizwe Jamela, has since denied the charge.
