Moyo yesterday confirmed his resignation saying he had decided to become an ordinary party member.

“I stepped down from the position of chairman for the youth, but I remain an ordinary member of the party,” he said.

Zapu insiders said Moyo handed his resignation letter to acting Bulawayo provincial chairman Memorial Malambane Dube on Monday. Sources said Moyo was frustrated by the state of affairs in the party. Informants said more members were expected to resign as they were not happy with the way the party was being run.

“Elders in the party are frustrating everyone,” said a source.

“They have set up parallel structures within the youth to push their agenda.  Such developments are the ones that frustrated Moyo into resigning.”

Zapu has been rocked by chaos that has seen the expulsion of Bulawayo provincial chairman Retired Colonel Ray Ncube and the suspension of Bulawayo youth executive member Mqondisi Moyo in recent months.

Moyo was suspended in October over allegations of insubordination, while Ncube was expelled for allegedly “conspiring to create and indeed, succeeding in forming a parallel party”.

Ncube was expelled for sidelining party hierarchy and writing to party president Dumiso Dabengwa highlighting the need to improve the party’s visibility at grassroots level.
