NETONE has appointed top economist and business executive Brian Mutandiro as its chief operating officer (COO).

COO is a new post created at NetOne following the restructuring exercise at the mobile telecommunications company last year.
NetOne chief executive officer Reward Kangai confirmed Mutandiro’s appointment.
“He brings in a wealth of experience from various organisations where he held senior managerial positions. We believe his appointment will take this organisation to another level as we strive to regain our number one spot in the sector,’’ he said.
NetOne, whose subscriber base ballooned from 2,5 million in 2014 to four million last year, is currently embarking on a turnaround programme.
Last year, the organisation installed 148 base stations countrywide, the largest figure since the company’s inception 20 years ago.

Mutandiro (56) has been at the helm of four top-notch companies in Zimbabwe and transformed some of them from loss-making entities into formidable organisations.
He has worked for audit firm Deloitte and Touche as a consultant, PG Central Africa, Coca-Cola and then Post and Telecommunications Corporation, Chemco Holdings and Almin Metal Industries.
“From the outset, we need a paradigm shift. We need to see infinite opportunities in our sector and establish how we can turn them into business. Opportunities for NetOne are bountiful and it’s incumbent upon us all here to harness them for the common good of both our organisation, and the country at large,” Mutandiro said.
