The internationally-acclaimed mbira maestro, who is now based in Germany, but occasionally returns to perform in Zimbabwe, will be supported by local mbira acts Andy Muridzo and Jeetaz Band, Zuva Rabuda Group as well as Nyamasvisva.
Chiweshe has promised fireworks in a show that is likely to draw a full house at Chitungwiza’s newly found home of entertainment — Tanza Centre.
“I am back and people should come and see me perform. I am still as energetic as I was 10 years ago, despite my advanced age,” she said yesterday.
With eight albums under her belt, Chiweshe has exhibited her deep understanding of Zimbabwean culture and intricate skills of playing the mbira. Her music has won her the heart of many fans, locally and internationally.
“I will perform my old and new songs and these include songs from my latest CD, Chakandiwana,” she said.
The song Chachimurenga, off her 2002 album Talking Mbira, was a hit and endeared Mbuya Chiweshe with a legion of followers, both old and young. Some of her popular tracks are Huya Uzoona, Tapera and Ndabaiwa.

Chiweshe said she will be backed by the Stella Chiweshe Mbira Trio and the Earthquake Band.
Tanza Centre manager Richard Chibvongodze said they were elated to host Chiweshe.
“She is bringing with her international experience, which I think will help develop some of the upcoming artists who will be supporting acts,” he said, adding that people should come in their numbers and watch a once-in-life-time mbira extravaganza.
