Forget Nyandoro will, however, serve and effective eight-year sentence after regional magistrate, Hosea Mujaya suspended four years on condition of good behaviour.
Mujaya said Nyandoro’s conduct was heartless because he was well aware of the victims’ mental condition although she insisted throughout the trial that she suffered from depression.
“I had consented to have sex with the accused person on that day because he promised to marry me, but I was angry when he disappeared and not fulfilled his promise that I reported the matter to the police,” the woman had told the court.
Prosecutor, Ephraim Zinyandu proved that on April 10 this year, the complainant went to look for firewood at a nearby bush and when she diverted into a small path she noticed Nyandoro in pursuit riding his bicycle.
The court heard Nyandoro approached the woman and proposed love to her, while fondling her breasts, but she refused. Nyandoro then raped her once before promising to marry her.
