There was drama at the Harare Magistrates’ Court yesterday when a suspected mental health patient who is facing charges of unlawful entry into premises, vented her anger on court officials and tried to commit suicide.
Carar Gilboy (43), had to be pulled back from a window by her co-accused and aide Thokozile Marupiya as she attempted to throw herself from the second floor, about 20 metres to the ground.
The circus took place in Court 9 where Gilboy and three other accused persons were awaiting trial.
Public prosecutors, police officers and the public were left in shock as Marupiya battled to rescue the woman pulling her hand as the whole body was already out.
Onlookers had to assist Marupiya to pull back Gilboy, who appeared determined to end her life.
After her failed suicide attempt, Gilboy wept uncontrollably as she demanded justice from the courts, protesting that she had in fact been assaulted by the complainant.
In court, Gilboy trembled and shouted, disrupting proceedings.
“Please, God help me! Glory is to God. Excuse me, magistrate, can I say something?” shouted Gilboy.

As if the drama was not enough, an unidentified man who attempted to cool down Gilboy in the dock suddenly dropped his trousers, sending the court into stitches.
Regional magistrate Tayengwa Chibanda ordered Gilboy to be examined by at least two medical doctors from Chikurubi Maximum Prison.
Gilboy’s co-accused Marupiya, Garai Nemaramba and Kudakwashe Musendami were remanded out of custody to December 28 on free bail on allegations the quartet unlawfully entered Cleopas Majoni’s storeroom and stole 19 radios, eight baton sticks and 30 handcuffs — all valued at $6 640.
However, the complainant is also facing assault charges after allegedly beating up Gilboy. Francisca Mukumbiri represented the State.
