LUPANE — Judgment in a case involving senior Matabeleland North Zanu PF provincial official, John Khumalo, charged with stealing two diesel-powered engines, worth $7 600, was last week further deferred after the defence lawyer applied to submit new evidence before the court.

The trial continues tomorrow with Khumalo’s lawyer, Solomon Mguni, submitting fresh evidence.

Khumalo (58), who is Zanu PF’s secretary for legal affairs in the province, is denying the theft charges and is out of custody on $100 bail.

Khumalo recently failed to bring his witnesses to court as promised, but brought a document entitled, Year 2000 or the Devil Year which was signed by him.

He said the document was copied to the project executive committee members who he claimed have left for greener pastures, making it difficult for him to call them to attend the court case.

Khumalo was a ward councillor in Jotsholo sometime in the 1990s when a non-governmental organisation donated the Lister diesel-powered engines to the Jotsholo villages for a pilot cattle farming projects.
