Leader of the People's Unity Party (PUP), Herbert Chamuka has advocated for a Government of National Unity (GNU), stating that country leaders should prioritize the wellbeing of the people of Zimbabwe over party interSpeaking from his South African (SA) base, Chamuka stressed the importance of collaboration between the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) led by Nelson Chamisa and ZANU-PF led by Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa to address the challenges faced by the country.

"We advocate for a Government of National Unity (GNU), where both the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) led by Nelson Chamisa and ZANU-PF led by Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa prioritize the wellbeing of the people of Zimbabwe over party interests.

"At present, only a GNU can offer a solution to the challenges our country is facing," he said.

Chamuka said the upcoming commemoration of Unity Day on December 22 holds symbolic significance in Zimbabwe, representing the unity between ZANU and ZAPU, which formed ZANU-P.F. since 1987.

However, Chamuka  pointed out the necessity for a similar unity between ZANU-PF and CCC, highlighting its  positive impact on the struggling economy.

"Soon, Zimbabwe will commemorate Unity Day on December 22, an annual event since 1987. This day symbolizes the unity of ZANU and ZAPU, which formed ZANU-P.F.

"This unity was significant, but we now seek a similar unity between ZANU-PF and CCC, as the forthcoming commemoration on December 22 does not positively impact our economy like the unity between ZANU-PF and CCC would.

The dire situation being faced by the people of Zimbabwe reflects the state of the economy, Chamuka said.

Therefore, Chamuka stressed the urgent need for the two parties to unite and prioritize the interests of all citizens.

"The situation for the people is dire, therefore it is crucial for the two parties to come together and speak the same language that benefits all citizens, just as ZANU-PF and MDC merged in 2008.

To elaborate on the importance of ZANU-PF uniting with CCC and to further promote dialogue between the parties, Chamuka announced he would hold a public address.

"To share my views on why ZANU-PF should unite with CCC, I will hold a public address on December 20, 2023, at Batanai Gardens in Harare CBD," Chamuka said.

"For those willing to attend the address, we kindly request that you do so peacefully and refrain from promoting violence. Our ultimate goal is to advocate for a good life for all Zimbabweans and work towards achieving lasting peace in our nation."
