ALPHA Media Holdings (AMH) yesterday donated groceries and cash to senior citizens at Entembeni Old People’s Home in Luveve and Ekuphumuleni Geriatric Nursing Home in Mzilikazi.Report by Blondie Ndebele, Own Correspondent
Entembeni, with 51 elderly people, received $500, while Ekuphumuleni, home to 37 senior citizens, got groceries which included beans, cabbages, a first aid kit and 100kg of maize.
AMH Bulawayo acting branch manager Peter Dube said the media company realised that elderly members of society needed support during hard times.
“The company has remembered that there are old people in the community, so with the little that we have, we want to improve their livelihood,” he said.
Other companies which teamed up with AMH include Fawcett Security, Emras and Mbizo Meats.
Fawcett security assistant regional manager Patrick Matyatya encouraged the elderly to thank God for their long lives, saying many young people will not reach a ripe age.
“Young people die before they can reach such an age,” he said.
“You should be happy that you are what you are because God has blessed you with these years. Our job is to keep property and people safe and we have accepted that we have to take care of you as well.” Entembeni Old People’s Home matron Catherine Chiponda received the donation on behalf of the institution, while Ekuphumuleni administrator Sibusisiwe Khumalo represented her organisation.
