Producers of the movie, Decent Art House, said the DVD will be an early Christmas present to their audience. Decent Art House publicist Batsirai Masvinge said the film would be sold through their “direct sales street model” that they used for Lobola.

Lobola sold over 100 000 copies in the first few weeks of release.

“We strive to beat our past record because The Gentleman has been a bigger film in terms of audience response,” said Masvinge.

“We are working closely with our United States-based executive producer Sylvia Chimhina and we have put in place measures to sell at least 250 000 copies throughout Zimbabwe and in the Diaspora during the festive season.”

The Gentleman premiered in Harare, London and Blantyre and has for the past year been screened in many cinemas.

It has also been screened at a number of international festivals. Masvinge said the DVDs would be sold for $1 each in a bid to beat piracy.

“The Gentleman will be sold as a high demand commodity like airtime and newspapers at stalls at various strategic points.

“People will find it at bus termini, traffic lights, internet cafes, hair salons, petrol stations and other leading outlets like Rainbow Theatre and Limited Edition (Eastgate).”

Shot in full HD and presenting stunning visuals by cinematographer Rufaro Kaseke, the film is set in Harare and Johannesburg.

It is a tale of identical twin brothers whose worlds have gone drastically wrong.  With one staying in South Africa and the other in Harare, the brothers are faced with financial constraints that force them to adopt unorthodox survival tactics.

They reunite eight years later and the differences in their previous environments make their interaction exciting. The film stars Munya Chidzonga, South African Oscar winner Presley Chweneyegae of the Tsotsi fame, Malawian model Faith Chibale, local businessman Phillip Chiyangwa and singer Willis Wattafi, among others.

“We are excited about the release of The Gentleman on DVD and we are confident it will mark a new era for the Zimbabwean film industry as we move towards telling our own stories through the film medium,” said Masvinge.

“This will certainly be a great Christmas present for the whole family to sit back, relax and watch a truly Zimbabwean film with international standards.”
