Tailored for Zimbabweans to gain access to facilities, services and products in the tourism sector, the festival is the brainchild of Odnet Africa Systems, a marketing organisation founded by Walter Chiyanja and Pedzisai Urimbo.

Through the festival, Odnet Africa Systems is hoping to encourage people to have conversations, interact with friends, colleagues and neighbours about Zimbabwe’s diverse cultural heritage and the art of braai’ing that is a deep-rooted tradition in Zimbabwe that cuts across all demographic groups.

This two-day festival will also witness some of the amazing musical performers take to the stage during a celebration that has been dubbed “True To Being Zimbo”.

The artistes comprise urban grooves stars Ngoni Kamabarami, Rockford “Roki” Josphats, Leonard Mapfumo, Pauline Gundudza, Taurai Mandebvu and Tererai Mugwadi together with Mbare-based dancehall chanter Seh Calaz.

Speaking to NewsDay on the sidelines of the media launch at the Chinese Garden in Milton Park last week, event organiser Walter Chiyanja said: “This festival showcases our diverse tourism, travel, leisure and lifestyles and is geared up to cater for families, friends and children anticipating to discover the country’s true tourism resources and all they have to offer.”

He added: “It is not all about sitting and relaxing around a fire with friends and family, but a wonderful experience that gives people a platform to connect. It is also an innovative marketing platform that will certainly allow direct and refreshing access to the tourism sector in exposing and sharing its true values in service provision.”

Amazing to note among braai lovers is the environment offered by this seemingly appropriate venue, a large area just to relax on the green field with your chairs and picnic blankets and listening to some of the best music.

Other artistes in wide-ranging cultural activities will also have a platform to showcase their works with the aim of bridging the gap in norms about activities for class and groups in Zimbabwe and abroad. Chiyanja also highlighted that their long-term vision was to have the festival held four times a year after this year’s event.

“In the long run, we want to have the festival held at least four times a year so as to ensure flexibility in the programme to accommodate and carry the full mentioned spectrum of participants, contributors and stake-holders,” he said.
