President Emmerson Mnangagwa says government is preparing for the 2026/27 agricultural season by urging increased production and productivity amid forecasts of an El Niño-induced weather pattern, while expressing confidence that Zimbabwe will deliver another strong wheat harvest.
Addressing the Zanu PF Politburo on Wednesday, Mnangagwa said agriculture remained central to the country’s economic growth strategy and called on farmers to maximise output despite the anticipated climatic challenges.
The President also said government had put in place programmes to support Zimbabweans returning from South Africa, adding that authorities were working to ensure their safe, orderly and dignified reintegration into society.
Mnangagwa said the economy remained on a positive growth trajectory, underpinned by improved agricultural performance and sustained expansion across key sectors.
He said expectations were high for another landmark wheat harvest, which he said would strengthen the country’s food security and economic resilience.
The President also highlighted the launch of the Victoria Falls International Financial Centre, describing it as a strategic initiative that would position Zimbabwe as a competitive regional investment and financial services hub capable of attracting international capital.
On foreign affairs, Mnangagwa welcomed Zimbabwe’s election as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for the 2027–2028 term, saying the development reflected the country’s growing international standing.
He added that preparations to host the 2026 COMESA Summit were progressing, with government seeking to leverage the event to deepen regional economic integration and strengthen trade ties.
