BULAWAYO, June 23 (NewsDay Live) -The Local Authorities Pension Fund (LAPF) has opened a customer service centre in Bulawayo as it moves to decentralise and bring services closer to beneficiaries in the Matabeleland region.
The office is located at LAPF House along 8th Avenue between Fife Street and Jason Moyo Street.
Speaking during the centre's opening ceremony on Monday, Bulawayo town clerk Christopher Dube commended LAPF for decentralising its services and establishing a permanent customer service presence in the city.
Dube said the development was significant given that Bulawayo is the country's second largest city after Harare.
“It is important that these offices are opened locally because they bring services closer to pensioners and contributors,” said Dube.
He applauded LAPF for efforts aimed at improving the welfare of pensioners, noting that all workers eventually become pensioners and, therefore, deserve dignified treatment and efficient service delivery.
Dube also encouraged the LAPF to continue investing in Bulawayo, highlighting that the pension fund already has several property investments in the city.
Pensioners who attended the event expressed optimism that the centre would improve efficiency in handling queries, claims and other pension-related services.
