CITIZENS Coalition for Change (CCC) mayor for Marondera Chengetai Murova has torched a storm after claiming that President Emmerson Mnangagwa helped him to fulfil his 2023 election promises after drilling boreholes in ward 1.
Murova made the remarks recently at the launch of Presidential Borehole Drilling Scheme in Marondera.
The event was led by Presidential Advisor on Investment and Empowerment Across all Regions Paul Tungwarara, Mashonaland East Provincial Affairs and Devolution minister Itayi Ndudzo, Zanu PF national secretary for war veterans Douglas Mahiya and the party provincial chairperson Daniel Garwe, among others.
Murova said Marondera required in excess US$20 million to upgrade its water reticulation system, an amount beyond the reach of the local authority, amid a rapidly growing population.
He also applauded Mnangagwa for availing clean water to marginalised members of the opposition party through this transformative intervention.
“As community leaders, we always run around to find progressive leaders like the Prevail International led by Special Presidential adviser Paul Tungwarara, the state-of-the-art boreholes are currently unmatched, there are of international standards,” he said.
“I urge my community, which is a beneficiary of such a community borehole scheme, to guard it jealously. Please leaders who are here, go and tell President Emmerson Mnangagwa that he has helped me to fulfil my 2023 election promise of providing potable and clean water to my ward, he (Mnangagwa) has really helped me.
“Marondera town requires in excess of US$20 million to upgrade our reticulation facilities and to be able to provide clean water to our ever-growing population.”

However, political analyst Ruben Mbofana said that was not a free meal.
“I have said it before, this is just political capture and this is not a free meal. We are going to see more of this,” he said.
“Sir Wicknell Chivayo gave opposition Budiriro MP Susan Matsunga a Toyota Fortuner vehicle and US$50 000 for praising President Emmerson Mnangagwa and all these people are compromised,” he said.
Mbofana said Marondera mayor case's was a bribe wrapped in a ribbon.
Another political analyst Rejoice Ngwenya said Zimbabwe was full of political opportunists in the opposition.
“It is now clear we have opportunists in our opposition politics and it's very sad,” he said.
