BUSINESSMAN-CUM-POLITICIAN Kudakwashe Tagwirei

BUSINESSMAN-CUM-POLITICIAN Kudakwashe Tagwirei has received an honorary doctorate from a Ugandan university in recognition of his “exceptional humanitarian leadership, Christian stewardship, and service to humanity”.

The honorary doctorate was conferred on the Zanu PF central committee member on Sunday by Bugema University, a Chartered Seventh-Day Adventist Institution of higher learning in the East African country.

”It is an honour to be recognised outside Zimbabwe, especially for the philanthropic works I do not do for recognition but for transforming communities,” the businessman told NewsDay yesterday.

This is the third time in two years that Tagwirei has been honoured by African universities.

In 2023, Tagwirei was awarded an honorary doctorate by Solusi University for his contribution to the country’s agriculture sector.

In July this year, the businessman was conferred with an honorary doctorate in Business and Strategic Management from Nigeria's Babcock University in recognition of its leadership in business, philanthropic work through organisations like the Bridging Gaps Foundation.

Tagwirei is an elder with the SDA Church.

In March this year, the Sakunda Holdings boss made history by becoming the first black person to be accorded the  Global Award of Excellence by the General Conference of The Seventh-day Adventist Church.

The Maryland-headquartered organisation believes the award should create interest within the world for Adventists to assist institutions of the church.

The Global Award of Excellence is a prestigious accolade in the SDA Church awarded to an individual who has made a global impact on education with the church worldwide.
