African Idol and CBZ A Academy contender Mkhululi Bhebhe put on a splendid performance at the Harare International Conference Centre when he featured in one of Joyous Celebration’s songs last Saturday.
He delighted Zimbabwean fans when he performed alongside this fashionable gospel outfit.
The crowd went into ecstasy when they unexpectedly saw Bhebhe feature a new version of Tambira Jehova, one of their most popular songs.
Mkhululi introduced Zimbabwean dances to his fellow Joyous members when he imitated Hosiah Chipanga and Simon Chimbetu dances in what was an outstanding performance by the 27-year-old singer who was clad in a silver suit.
“It was a magical experience performing with Joyous, I’m overwhelmed by the response Zimbabweans showed me and it was an exciting moment performing in my country.”
“Singing with Joyous Celebration since I joined them in April last year has been a nice experience and I have learnt a lot in terms of spiritual and music growth,” said Mkhululi.
Fans who spoke to NewsDay on the sidelines of the show expressed their appreciation of Mkhululi’s grand performance which spiced up the show.
“We are glad to see Mkhululi performing because it shows that Zimbabwean singers are also recognised internationally,” said one fan.

“It’s amazing to note that South Africans actually like our music and they want to fuse and blend the sound using different styles, just like the Nigerian touch that has been added by Uche to the group,” said Mkhululi.
Joyous Celebration also put up a good performance and made fans sing along to their popular songs such as Vron Van Samaria, Khuluma Nkosi Yami and Isikhala.
Uche was outstanding again with his song My God Is Good which thrilled the audience. The Joyous performance was more like looking at one of their DVDs as they replicated their style of singing and arrangement of instruments and songs.
Several local gospel artists also gave Joyous Celebration a run for their money with polished performances by Fungisai Mashavave, Pastor G, TN Choir and Sebastian Magacha giving fans the total package they were expecting.
Sipho Makhabane and Pastor and Amai Charamba performed soon after Joyous and fans showed their support for these singers as they remained in the venue till they finished performing.
Charles Charamba’s followers were given a double delight by their great singer as he unleashed the song of the moment, Nyika YeZimbabwe.
Mkhululi is working on his first album which is set to hit the market in June.
“I am also working on my first album, set for release end of June,” said Mkhululi.
He is due to release a 16-track album which he described as a diverse compilation with everything gospel lovers expect.
Mkhululi, as he is now part and parcel of the group, will feature on the next Joyous Celebration album — their 15th — with his song Tambira Jehovah.
