PREPARATIONS for the Midlands Marimba Arts Festival first braai edition to be held in Gweru are at an advanced stage, with organisers promising an epic time of fun fused with mbira and marimba music.

Midlands Marimba Arts Festival founding director Tinomutenda Chihora said the braai get-together, to be held early next month, came after the successful hosting of the 2025 arts festival in August, which ran under the theme Heritage-Based Curriculum: Starting from What We Have.

“We are calling upon music and fun lovers to come and join us experience the melodious beats of mbira and marimba as well as enjoying an epic time at the braai,” Chihora said.

“One just needs to purchase a T-shirt and cap from Midlands Marimba Arts and they are in for a day of live marimba and mbira music as well as a taste of unforgettable braai recipes and good company.

“We want the day to be a springboard into the festive season and so it has to be the funniest day ever.

“Those with sumptuous braai recipes can also bring them along and share with others because we want it to be a memorable time of both good food and music vibes.”

Chihora urged the corporate world and individuals to come and exhibit and “make kind donations” towards the day’s success.

He said the birth of the festival was in alignment with government’s National Development Strategy 1, adding that it fostered inclusive heritage-based education, youth skills development, promotion of cultural and creative industries, preservation of indigenous knowledge systems, and also contributed to building a knowledge-driven economy that didn’t discard tradition, but innovated upon it.
