BY SILISIWE MABALEKA BULAWAYO singer Philatu “Stormza” Nkiwane has come together with other artistes for a send off song to icon Continueloving Mhlanga.

The song is aptley titled Farewell.

Stormza, who is also a vocal engineer and producer, told NewsDay Life & Style that the track is inspired by the passing on of the arts doyen, but will apply to all heroes and heroines of the arts.

“The track applies to our fallen heroes in the arts industry, but it is inspired by the passing on of Cont Mhlanga,” he said.

“I am collaborating with a few artistes who include Harmony, Metty Intombi Emfishane, Brownie and DP the poet.”

Stormza said the song described how they felt as followers and as artistes.

The void that the great guru left is unbearable hence the need to remember him through a song.

“This type of a song can be played in future when one of our role models and celebs passes on because it does not only focus on Mdladla, but on any other individual in the arts field, the gap that icons usually leave,” he said.

The Vulisekele hitmaker said the track focused on the impact that the late Mhlanga played, his works, his humility and how he worked hard to impact positively in other people’s lives.

Meanwhile, Matabeleland Cultural Awards (MCA) said the late icon supported and aided the achievements of MCA hence his passing was a blow to it.

MCA chief executive Philani Ncube said they were still planning an event to honour Mhlanga.

“As MCA, Mhlanga played a pivotal role by supporting our cultural expo. Awards were held at Amakhosi theatre. Malume was also one of my mentors.

“He assisted me a lot when we finished our 2022 cultural expo edition and he shared ideas with us on how we can improve MCA,” he said.

“We are still planning an event to honour ukhulu uMhlanga, but for now we are still shocked about what happened to him.”

Ncube said Khulu Mhlanga wanted to see the Ndebele tradition restored and people living their culture.

We learnt ubuntu from him, that people from this part of the country should unite cultural players and implement their activities to uplift this part of the country.

Mhlanga was laid to rest at his home in Lupane on Saturday.
