BY SILAS NKALA BULAWAYO City Council (BCC) will this week commission 267 serviced stands as it intensifies efforts to reduce the housing backlog that has ballooned to over 100 000 home seekers.

In a notice to stakeholders, the local authority said: “The council, in partnership with TCI International Private Limited, has completed the servicing of 267 stands in Emganwini suburb. You are cordially invited to the commissioning of the stands that are fully serviced with water, sewer and roads.”

In January, the council advertised for expression of interest in the development of 460 residential stands on Lot 1 of RE Umganwini, and 118 residential stands on portion of RE 1198 of Lot 400A Emganwini.

The 267 serviced stands will be sold to beneficiaries on the council housing waiting list and the developer, TCI International, will recoup its monies for servicing the stands from proceeds of the stand sales.

TCI International will also be awarded the development of 118 high-density residential stands in RE 1198 Emganwini.
