BY STEPHEN CHADENGA THREE suspected machete-wielding robbers have been nabbed by a special police crack unit after they allegedly killed a woman in Kwekwe and severely assaulted her husband and niece.

Midlands provincial police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the arrest of Hardlife Mushipe (23), Liberty Chipanga (23) and Trust Chipanga (23) all from Gokwe.

“The general public is informed that police Midlands province has arrested three suspects believed to be behind the murder and robbery cases which occurred in Mbizo 18, Kwekwe on Sunday  July 3, 2022, at around 1am,” Mahoko said yesterday.

The trio broke into a Mbizo home belonging to Kudakwashe Muurungi (39), his wife Pretty Mxotshwa (34) and niece Cedilla Mushava (22) while they were asleep. They assaulted them with hoe handles and heavy sticks.

Muurungi then surrendered US$12 to the robbers, while the now deceased Mxotshwa surrendered US$300, but the robbers continued assaulting them demanding more money.

Mxotshwa died at the scene after sustaining deep cuts on the head.

“At the scene, police discovered a pellet gun, two blood stained logs, a hoe handle and machetes.”
