Council and Kambasha villagers have been at loggerheads over boundary disputes, with the rural community accusing council of encroaching onto the villages and vice versa.

BY OBERT SIAMILANDU GOKWE Town Council has agreed with the Kambasha community to incorporate their informal settlement into the local authority’s jurisdiction.

Council and Kambasha villagers have been at loggerheads over boundary disputes, with the rural community accusing council of encroaching onto the villages and vice versa.

Speaking during a memorandum of understanding signing ceremony between Gokwe and Kashamba, Gokwe mayor Never Gwanzura said: “The agreement will allow for development in Kambasha. This is a great development for both the villagers and council. We can now expect positive change in Kambasha as a result of the development.”

Gwanzura said the agreement would mark the end of protracted disputes between council and the Kashamba community.

The conflict was resolved through interventions from a local non-governmental organisation, Centre for Conflict Management and Transformation.
