BY REX MPHISA A ZIMBABWEAN Andrea Imbayarwo (32) was sentenced to two life terms by the South African High Court on Thursday for raping and murdering a British national in 2014.

The deceased, 55-year-old Christine Robinson, who was Imbayarwo’s employer, was found with the murder weapon, a knife, still lodged in her neck by police who attended the scene.

A South African Police Service (Saps) media statement issued on Thursday confirmed that the Limpopo High Court on April 21 handed down the two life sentences.

“The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has welcomed the hefty sentence handed down against a foreign national by the Limpopo Division of the High Court in Polokwane, April 21, 2022. This was after he was convicted of raping and brutally killing a 55 year old businesswoman who was a British National,” Saps Limpopo provincial spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said in the statement.

“The accused … was sentenced to two life imprisonments for raping and killing Christine Robinson, who was the owner of Raditau Lodge in Thabazimbi in the Waterberg district. This horrendous crime was committed during 2014.

“The deceased was found in her bedroom in the morning of July 30, 2014 at about 7:30am. The police had been called and on arrival at the scene, the victim was found with the knife still stuck in her neck. She was certified dead on the scene by the paramedics.”

Imbayarwo, employed at the lodge at the time, was arrested six years later on July 20, 2020.

“Further investigations revealed that the victim was also raped and robbed of some valuables. Imbayarwo was never granted bail until he was sentenced,” said Ledwaba.
