Harare town clerk gets ultimatum over AG report

Moyo was supposed to appear before the Public Accounts sub-committee led by Chegutu West legislator Dexter Nduna.

BY HARRIET CHIKANDIWA HARARE acting town clerk Mabhena Moyo has been given a two-week ultimatum to respond to queries raised in the Auditor-General’s report after he snubbed Parliament yesterday.

Moyo was supposed to appear before the Public Accounts sub-committee led by Chegutu West legislator Dexter Nduna.

Council officials told the committee that Moyo was in Kadoma attending a workshop.

“The town clerk was supposed to be here by way of protocol since he is the head of the institution. Parliament committee on local government and PAC (Public Accounts Committee) came here to interrogate the issues of solid waste management and to interrogate the issues that have been raised in the Auditor-General report that was tabled in 2018 in so far as solid waste is concerned,” Nduna said.

“This place according to us is on autopilot. We have given them an opportunity to come and exonerate themselves and give us information in a fortnight otherwise the alternative would be to just shut down this place for a while and have the right people at the right places.”

Acting mayor Stewart Mutizwa apologised for the acting town clerk’s no show.
