BY COURAGE NYAYA Ambitious Zifa Northern Region Division One side Golden Eagles have sacked coach Joel Lupahla and his assistants after an indifferent start to the season.

The club is eyeing promotion to the topflight league, but of late results have not gone its way, prompting the management to wield the axe on the technical team.

Eagles released a Press statement yesterday confirming the departure of Lupahla as well as his assistants.

Former Warriors striker Gilbert Mushangazhike has taken  over and will be assisted by Philipe Sithole

“Joel lupanhla has today left his role as first team head coach at Golden Eagles FC. The club also confirm that assistant coaches Elliot Matsika and Warren Mapanga have also left the nest.

“After discussions on Sunday ,it was ultimately decided that we would go separate ways. We want to thank Joel for his efforts during his time at Golden Eagles and wish him every success in the future,” said Golden Eagles chairman Barry Manandi.

Lupahla was the head coach at Telone FC when they were playing in the Zifa Central Region Division One League in 2018 and managed to lead them into the  Premier Soccer League before he was reassigned to another role after Zifa barred him from taking up the role of head coach in the topflight as he lacked the requisite qualifications.

He was then lured by the then Zifa Division 2A club Golden Eagles FC and led them to the second tier league.

Golden Eagles currently sit third on the log with 28 points, three less than table toppers Herentals who have played a game more. Eagles have drawn four matches and it’s probably the reason the club decided to let go of Lupahla.
