DeMbare in defensive crisis

BY HENRY MHARA DYNAMOS are facing a defensive crisis ahead of Sunday’s Derby clash against Harare City with key figures nursing injuries.

The Tonderai Ndiraya-coached side is already without captain Patson Jaure, who has failed to recover from a back injury that sidelined him from the team’s match against ZPC Kariba last week.

His central defensive partner Frank Makarati missed training yesterday due to an ankle injury and is a huge doubt for the weekend game.

As if those problems are not enough, defensive midfielder Keith Murera, who is another regular in the team, has also been ruled out of the match.

If Makarati fails to recover, it will be the first time that Ndiraya will be without either of his two trusted defenders in the starting line-up this season.

But the Dynamos coach said he was not losing sleep over the possible defensive conundrum.

“It hasn’t really been a good week for us in terms of injuries but because of the depth that we have, we are confident that even if they fail to make it for the game on Sunday, we have got very able replacements,” Ndiraya told journalists yesterday.

Sylvester Appiah slotted in well last week for Jaure and Arnold Mawadza could be called in if Makarati fails to make it.

Utility player Godknows Murwira, who was superb as a d-link last week, is another option for Ndiraya in central defence, while Brendon Mpofu or Tino Muringai are other options.

Ndiraya’s men who have managed to string together three wins in the past few weeks, have set themselves a target of making it four straight wins with a victory over Harare City.

He said the three straight wins had galvanised his team, who are moving rapidly towards the top of the log standings.

Dynamos currently lie third on the log table with 16 points, three behind Chicken Inn, who have a tough away fixture at Ngezi Platinum Stars tomorrow.
