A 23-YEAR-OLD man from Rangemore in Bulawayo is facing six counts of rape, assault and escaping from police custody.

He was, however, lucky not to be detained as the court ordered that his case will proceed by way of summons.

Bhekinkosi Nyoni (23) was not asked to plead to the charges when he appeared before Western Commonage magistrate Tancy Dube last Friday charged with six counts, including two counts of rape, three counts of assault and one count of escaping from police custody and threatening a police officer who was arresting him.

Dube ordered that the cases must proceed by way of summons.

The public prosecutor told the court that in the first count on August 15, 2020 in Mbundane, Nyoni raped a woman.

On December 27, 2020 at Shiriyekudenga shops, it is alleged that he head-butted Zechariah Hamadziripi twice on the forehead and struck him on the chest with a fist.

The following day at the same place, it is also alleged that Nyoni assaulted Thembelani Sibindi.

On December 28, he assaulted Prudocasia Matago and Forest Makumbe in Rangemore.

On an unknown date, he allegedly escaped from police custody and threatened to assault the police officer who tried to arrest him. He was later apprehended and arraigned before the courts.
