BY HENRY MHARA FC Platinum will this weekend face their former star Kelvin Madzongwe for the first time since he completed his surprise move to Bulawayo Chiefs last month.

The midfielder, a vital cog in FC Platinum’s recent league championship successes, made a switch to Bulawayo after refusing to renew his contract in Zvishavane at the end of the year.

And the lanky Warriors player is set to be reunited with his old teammates when the two sides meet on Sunday in a rescheduled league match.

Other former FC Platinum stars Perfect Chikwende and Kelvin Moyo have also joined the big spending Chiefs and their availability will give another interesting subplot to this duel.

The clash is one of the three rescheduled fixtures that have been set for this weekend to resume Castle Lager Premier Soccer League.

The league campaign took a recess at the end of December for holidays as well as paving way for the Africa Cup of Nations tournament which ended on Sunday.

Most of the teams had played three rounds of matches at the time of the break.

Six clubs had outstanding fixtures after their games were postponed due to different reasons, chief among the Covid-19 pandemic.

Those matches have now been scheduled for this weekend to restart the league campaign, the Premier Soccer League (PSL) announced yesterday.

Eyes will obviously be on Bulawayo Chiefs after their busy transfer window business that saw them attracting some of the big name players on the local scene.

Besides the trio of Madzongwe, Moyo and Chikwende, Chiefs have also snatched Obadiah Tarumbwa and Obrey Chirinda as they seek to build a squad that is strong enough to challenge for the league championship.

Yesterday, the club who are pushing mountains to transform themselves into a professional entity to match international standards, announced a kit sponsorship with Moors World of Sport (MWOS).

MWOS is one of the leading sports betting companies in Zimbabwe

“We are delighted to present to you our New Partners @_MWOS who join the Ninja family as Principal Kit Sponsor. The MWOS logo will be spotted in our New 2022 Match Day kits and Replicas,” the club announced on their social media handles.

FC Platinum will present an acid test for the Ninjas, and a win for the Zvishavane side will see them climbing top of the log standings.

Bulawayo Chiefs have picked four points in their opening two matches with victory over Triangle and a draw against Craneborne Bullets.

Chicken Inn, without star striker Chirinda, who has crossed the floor to join big spenders Bulawayo Chiefs, will get the ball rolling with a clash against winless Tenax at Luveve Stadium on Saturday.

The 2016 league champions have done their player transfer business quietly and are yet to publicly announce any arrivals so far.

“Did you know doing your things silently does not mean you doing nothing. Happy movement players. Goodbye and welcome. It is what it is,” the club wrote on their official Twitter handle.

In the two matches that they have played this season, Chicken Inn lost to FC Platinum and beat Craneborne Bullets.

They have a chance to pick more maximum points against a Tenax side that are yet to pick maximum points.

The army side were given a baptism of fire with a 6-1 drubbing by FC Platinum in their opening match before drawing 2-2 with Whawha in their second match.

Saturday: Chicken Inn v Tenax (Luveve)

Sunday: Bulawayo Chiefs v FC Platinum (Luveve), Black Rhinos v Caps United (Sakubva)
