Morocco back in AU Peace and Security Council

Morocco was on the AU Peace and Security Council for a two-year term (2018-2020), during which the Kingdom contributed constructively to improving working methods and the establishment of good practices.

The Kingdom of Morocco was on Thursday elected for a three-year term to the Peace and Security Council (PSC) of the African Union (AU) by the Executive Council of the African body.

Morocco got more than two-thirds of the votes in the election that took place on the occasion of the 40th Ordinary Session of the AU Executive Council held on February 2-3 at the bloc’s headquarters in Addis- Ababa, Ethiopia.

Fourteen other member states constitute the PSC.

Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Abroad minister Nasser Bourita, led the Moroccan delegation to this year’s session.

The Peace and Security Council (PSC) is the standing decision-making organ of the AU for the prevention, management and resolution of conflicts.

It is a collective security and early warning arrangement intended to facilitate timely and efficient responses to conflict and crisis situations in Africa. – AUNews
