Shamva man raps mentally challenged girl

Amos Takudzwa was not asked to plead to rape charges when he appeared before Bindura magistrate Ruramai Chitumbura today.

By SIMBARASHE SITHOLE An 18-YEAR-OLD Shamva man is in hot soup after picking a mentally challenged girl (16) from a Nyau dance event and took her to his bedroom where he allegedly raped her.

Amos Takudzwa was not asked to plead when he appeared before Bindura magistrate Ruramai Chitumbura today.

He was remanded in custody to January 19.

The State led by Sheilla Kudzai Maribha alleged that on New Year’s Day, Takudzwa met the victim (name withheld) at a Nyau dance event in Shamva and proposed love to her.

He allegedly took her to his home where he raped her once without using protection.

The pair then went back to the Nyau dance event, but the victim decided to go back home as it was late.

Upon being quizzed by her aunt over her whereabouts, she divulged that she was raped. A police report was made leading to Takudzwa’s arrest.
