The 2021-22 Castle Lager soccer league goes into match day three this weekend after the Chibuku Super Cup final which was played on Sunday at Mandava Stadium between FC Platinum and Ngezi Platinum Stars.

FC Platinum won the final.

In a memorandum sent to clubs on Monday, PSL chief executive Kennedy Ndebele said the COVID-19 results should be copied to the league’s sports medicine chairman Edward Chagonda.

“In the wake of a recent upsurge in COVID-19 cases that have affected some clubs, we kindly request clubs to urgently conduct and submit COVID-19 test results before commencement of training on all playing, technical and administrative staff by Tuesday December 7, 2021 at 10am,” he said.

“The results should be communicated to the usual PSL designated addresses and copied to the PSL Sports Medicine committee chairman. Should you have any further queries, please do not hesitate to contact the undersigned.”

Some clubs last week had a number of players test positive for the virus and in Bulawayo, some of the players are in quarantine at an isolation centre.

The clubs stopped training last week after the surge in the number of positive cases.

Affected clubs might have their games postponed if positive cases remain high.

Last week, PSL spokesperson Kudzai Bare issued a Press statement following reports that some players and technical staff had tested COVID-19 positive.

“The Premier Soccer League has received reports of a number of positive COVID-19 cases among PSL clubs. Please be advised that we are working with club doctors and the PSL sports medicine committee and other relevant stakeholders to assist the affected and contain the spread of the virus. We advise our clubs and stakeholders to strictly follow the COVID-19 protocols and match operating procedures,” she said.

The week three games start today with Harare City hosting Yadah.
