POLICE in Bulawayo are investigating a case of attempted murder where a man of no fixed abode attempted to murder his friend by stabbing him several times during a scuffle over food.

Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube confirmed the case to Southern Eye last Friday.

Ncube said Gift Choga (29) of no fixed abode was arrested for attempting to murder Witness Matutu (23) also of no fixed abode.

“On December 15 at 3:30pm, Matutu was counting money when he was approached by Choga, who accused him of not wanting to buy food. He forcibly took cash amounting to US$30 from Matutu and walked away,” Ncube said.

“Matutu followed Choga and tried to seize the money. That is when Choga assaulted him once on the head using a concrete and pierced him twice on the head with a needle. He drew a kitchen knife from his pocket and stabbed him five times on the head.”

Ncube said a police report was made, resulting in Choga’s arrest.

Matutu was referred to the United Bulawayo Hospitals for medical attention.
