A 33-YEAR-OLD Chitungwiza man appeared at Harare Magistrates Court last week facing a charge of stealing irrigation equipment at Butler Farm in Manyame, in the outskirts of the capital.

Ashley Kanhanda was remanded in custody to January 27 when he appeared before magistrate Tafadzwa Miti.

The State was told that Kanhanda stole irrigation pipes and equipment on November 19 and December 22 at the farm.

He was caught in the act on December 22 by security guards and reported to the police, leading to his arrest.

Meanwhile, Beauty Makanda (37) also appeared before Miti facing a fraud charge.

Makanda is accused of defrauding Innocent Hanada of US$5 600 in a botched maize deal.

The court heard that Makanda approached Hanada with an unnamed accomplice and claimed to be a supplier of grain.

They were given a 10-tonne truck and US$5 600 to deliver the grain.

But they failed to deliver, leading to Hanada reporting the matter to police.
